Sustainability

Sustainability at Baukom Bauprodukte GmbH

We want to help change the world for the better and make the future more sustainable.

For us, sustainability means that we organise our business practices in such a way that we act in an ecologically, socially and economically responsible manner in the long term. It is about meeting the needs of the current generation as well as taking into account the needs of future generations.

We integrate sustainability into our business strategy and aim to promote environmentally friendly practices, utilise resources efficiently, reduce emissions, assume social responsibility and have a positive impact on society. We take into account not only ecological aspects, but also social and economic factors.

Sustainability brings significant benefits to our company, such as improved reputation and customer loyalty, access to new markets and the ability to attract and retain talent.

Also at our plant. Here we have summarised for you what we have achieved so far and what goals we still want to achieve.

Energy-efficient concepts

Around 90% of our electricity requirements are generated by a photovoltaic system on our hall roofs. All fluorescent tubes have been replaced by modern, energy-saving LED lamps. By switching our vehicle fleet (forklift trucks, road sweeper) from diesel to electric, fossil fuels are no longer required.

Part of our company fleet is already hybrid-powered, with more electric drives to come. Converting our heating system to a gas hybrid heating system with an air heat pump will save fossil fuels. We promote the principle of the circular economy and give pallets and wood another chance every day by refurbishing and recycling them. A modernised compressed air system in production has resulted in energy savings of almost 30%. We have more than halved our paper consumption in the office through digitalisation. We feed cardboard and paper into the recycling process. Metal waste is also fed into our recycling process.

Baukom has developed the SmartPac fabric corner bracket made from 100% recycled PVC and the Bio SmartPac packaging film made from 100% biodegradable material, and is using the Cradle to Cradle principle as an innovative example to drive the construction turnaround with great commitment.

Our newly developed fabric corner brackets are made from 100% recycled PVC and are therefore in the second application phase.

More than 20 % of aluminium filler profiles are damaged during transport to or on the construction site. We pack the majority of our aluminium filler profiles in shipping tubes made from recycled paper, which means they arrive at the wall “accident-free” and conserves aluminium as a resource.

All our aluminium profiles are made from 100% recycled aluminium. Some of the products are packaged in our so-called SmartPac made of bio-film. The film is “home-compostable” certified by TÜV Austria.

Thanks to an innovative winding process, we can dispense with the cardboard core in the ETICS fabric. This saves around 70 tonnes of CO2 per year. The buckets for our construction chemicals products are made from 100% recycled PVC We also offer construction chemicals products based on potato starch – our ÖKO-Line.

Innovation only has a future with sustainability.

We have worked out how to achieve this in collaboration with Prof Dr Michael Braungart, who co-developed the Cradle to Cradle® concept.

„Innovation only has a future with sustainability!“

Product innovations in the circular economy are an important component of the transformation. We are committed to ensuring that our children grow up in a future worth living. Baukom has won numerous awards for sustainable product innovations in recent years. Together with other decision-makers in the construction industry, we want to make a big difference: The transformation of the construction industry towards true sustainability. That is why we have initiated www.bauwende.com, a website for all managers in the construction industry who want to write the future and inspire others so that this transformation can succeed.
